EDGAR
🚨 Warning: This Puppy is a Walking OSHA Violation (But He Makes It Precious)
Meet Edgar — a 4-month-old Standard Schnauzer who looks like he was assembled out of black-and-silver velvet, a perfectly scruffy little beard, and four absolutely disrespectful, ginormous feet that belong to a much older dog who pays taxes.
He is gorgeous in that “handsome, soulful, slightly disheveled professor” way… except the professor is also a baby and occasionally forgets where his own limbs are. His coat is that classic schnauzer salt-and-pepper magic (dark, smoky, silver-kissed), his ears are soft and floppy, and his eyes? Those are the “I’ve been waiting for my person” kind of eyes. The kind that make you pause for a second and go, “Oh. You’re REAL real.”
And then he stands up and you remember: he’s all feet.
Not regular feet. Cartoon feet. Like he’s going to grow into them sometime around 2027.
🌀 Personality: Sweet, Smart… and Mildly a Menace
Edgar is happy, silly, affectionate, and fully convinced that your life will be better if he participates in everything you do — cooking, cleaning, walking, breathing, existing. He’s a busy, curious boy who wants to be in the middle of the action… and because he’s still growing into his big body, his “helping” often looks like: dumping the water bowl, bumping the door while you walk through, and then trotting off triumphantly with the food bowl like he just won a prize.
He is, as his foster so perfectly put it, an adorable menace. Not in a mean way — in a “sir, why are you like this?” way. He’s strong, smart, and a total problem-solver… which is great, unless the problem he’s solving is, “How do I get out of this puppy pen?” (Spoiler: he climbs. Up. And over. Because of course he does.)
🚽 Potty Training: The “I Forgot to Pee Because I Was Having Fun” Era
Edgar is on a regular potty schedule and he usually takes care of business outside… but he has one tiny flaw: he gets outside and immediately remembers that playing is a full-time job with overtime benefits.
So yes — he goes out often, he knows the routine, and he’s doing well overall… but he tends to “forget” the pee part sometimes because he’s too busy living his best life. Edgar also drinks a lot of water (he’s a well-hydrated king), which means he pees often and truly needs those frequent trips outside to stay successful.
One honest note: Edgar does not reliably signal when he needs to go out yet. He’s only been practicing for 2 weeks, so we can cut him some slack in this area. He’s a puppy, his brain is busy, and he’s having too much fun to be bothered with paperwork. The right home will keep him on a schedule and help him mature into that “I’ll politely let you know” stage.
🧡 People Dog, Through and Through
Edgar adores people. Men, women — he’s here for everyone. He’s affectionate and checks in often for pets and cuddles, and he has this endearing habit of being right at your feet when you’re looking for him. Like, “Hello. I’m with you. Obviously. Where else would I be?”
He’s also famous for something his foster calls “attack cuddles” — which is exactly what it sounds like. You think you’re having a normal moment and then suddenly there’s a scruffy schnauzer baby lovingly body-checking you into affection. It’s not graceful. It’s not subtle. But it IS incredibly sweet.
Because Edgar is a bigger puppy who is lively, klutzy, and still learning his manners in this big lanky body, he is better suited for sturdy kids over 6, and would not be a suitable match for seniors. As with most young puppies, items like shoelaces, hoodie strings, and scarves are currently considered “public toys” in Edgar’s mind. We are helping him learn to make better choices, and the right family will continue that with training, supervision, and appropriate chew outlets.
🐕 Dog Social Life: Gentle Giant Energy
Edgar plays GREAT with other dogs — big dogs, small dogs, male, female — he’s a social boy. And here’s what we love: even though he’s a big, clumsy baby with freight-train enthusiasm, he’s gentle with smaller dogs. He’s been fostered with smaller puppies and plays sweetly with them. He loves chase games and has epic wrestling matches with bigger dogs, and he’s the kind of pup who will keep the fun going without being rude about it.
He also has a strong “every toy is sacred” belief system. Edgar likes toys. He carts them around. He takes them to the yard. He collects them like trophies. Tug-of-war is his favorite, and he’ll even let tiny dogs “win” just so they’ll keep playing with him — which is honestly the kind of wholesome chaos we can get behind.
🧠 Training: Smart Boy, Food Motivated, Already Learning
Edgar is intelligent and eager to please, and it shows. He mastered sit quickly, knows his name, and does well returning to his pen when there’s a kibble treat involved (which… relatable). He’s the kind of dog who’s going to do beautifully with positive reinforcement training, consistency, and structure — because he likes engagement and he likes having a job.
And because he’s a Standard Schnauzer, it’s worth saying: this breed is known for being bright, athletic, and deeply loyal. Edgar’s going to need both physical activity and mental stimulation as he grows — walks, training games, puzzles, enrichment, play sessions, and a family who enjoys an interactive dog (not a decorative one).
🏡 Edgar’s Dream Home
Edgar will be happiest in an active home with older, considerate kids, where everyone understands that he’s a big puppy still learning his body and his manners. He would LOVE another active dog to play with, and he will absolutely want to be included in family adventures — because that’s who he is. A people dog. A shadow. A teammate. A scruffy best friend who makes you laugh until your stomach hurts.
And when you look into his eyes — those old-soul, hopeful eyes — you can feel it: Edgar is ready. Ready to find his people. Ready to give his whole heart. Ready to bring deep loyalty and deep belly laughs to the family who chooses him.

KNOWN HISTORY:
This kiddo was rescued from the pet trade. Living in a real home now, they are learning all about life outside of the cage with their loving foster families. They are enjoying playtime, beginning training, learning structure, and having the BEST time of their lives. (so far)
ABOUT THIS BREED:
The Standard Schnauzer is a medium-size dog who inspired early breeders to develop two more breeds who look just like him–the Miniature Schnauzer and the Giant Schnauzer. It’s no wonder breeders wanted to duplicate this dog in different sizes for different needs. Standard Schnauzers are not only highly intelligent and excellent family companions, they’re uniquely handsome, even aristocratic, in appearance. Renowned for their guarding abilities and devotion to their families, they’re also often described as a dog with a human brain. Squarely built, these dogs have stiff, wiry coats that shed little with minimal “doggy” odor. A hallmark of the breed is the face furnishings, which include arched eyebrows and a bristly mustache and beard. The high-set ears are carried erect when cropped but are otherwise V-shaped, carried forward with the inner edge of the ear close to the cheek. Standard Schnauzers typically carry themselves with a great deal of self-importance. They are agile and athletic, and excel in performance sports such as agility, tracking and herding. Highly versatile, they’re good hunters and have been used as retrievers both on land and in the water. They’re also excellent herders of sheep and cattle, one of their original jobs as an all-around farm dog. In fact, many Standard Schnauzers have earned herding titles.
With their working dog heritage, they also make excellent watchdogs. Standard Schnauzers are territorial, quick to bark at any disturbance. They have a deep bark that sounds as though it should come from a much larger dog and are vigorous in carrying out their watchdog duties. Their personality is sometimes mischievous, always clever, and inevitably dignified. They learn quickly and want to please, which makes them great therapy dogs. And when socialized with children, they make an excellent and affectionate companion for the younger members of the family. The Standard Schnauzer’s highly developed senses, intelligence, trainability, courage, stamina, and resistance to adverse conditions have found many a place in a field that most would not expect — search and rescue. Many of the Standards have proven to be exceedingly good at this important work, and their smaller size enables them to search in areas that larger dogs can’t reach.
Standard Schnauzers do have strong personalities, and can be stubborn. They have an uncanny way of determining your weaknesses and will take advantage of you whenever possible. If you’re not careful, they’ll rule the household; this is a breed that requires consistent and firm guidance from owners. With all of his innate skills and exceptional good looks, is it any wonder breeders felt one size was not enough? As the original model for both the Miniature and Giant Schnauzers, Standards are truly the foundation of a great legacy in dogs.
