MY PERSONALITY

Temperament

Meechum is a happy, affectionate, curious, people-loving little ray of sunshine with a generous helping of goofy puppy enthusiasm. He has a sweet, mild underlying temperament, loves being involved in family activities, and has an almost supernatural ability to turn ordinary moments into celebrations.

Social Style

Meechum LOVES people, especially kids who enjoy a playful, energetic companion. He's been wonderful with his foster family's school-aged children and their friends, even handling a birthday party with 20-plus kids and adults! He enjoys interacting with other dogs, though his enthusiasm is better suited to playful companions than dogs who prefer their retirement years to remain peaceful.

Energy

This moderate-to-high-energy youngster is a delightful combination of playful goofball and affectionate family companion. He loves fetch, squeaky toys, interactive games, and joining the family's adventures, but he also knows how to settle down and enjoy a cozy evening in bed. His greetings sometimes involve all four paws achieving simultaneous liftoff.

Trainability

Wicked smart, food-motivated, and eager to please, Meechum already knows sit, stay, shake, down, and heel! He walks beautifully on leash, uses the doggie door independently, and generally settles well in his crate. He's continuing to polish his greetings, appropriate chewing, and household manners, because occasionally that impressive brain gets ideas the humans didn't authorize.

Favorites

Squeaky squirrels, fetch, food puzzles, car rides, school pickup, children, comfortable beds, and being included in absolutely EVERYTHING. His favorite pastime might actually be finding out where you're going and making sure you don't commit the unforgivable offense of leaving without your Meechum.

🐾 A Little About Meechum!

MEET MEECHUM! 🐾

Approximately one year old, 39 pounds, and apparently powered by an industrial-strength happiness generator, Meechum is a ridiculously handsome little yellow Labrador mix with a heart of gold, a brain that never stops working, and absolutely NO intention of missing out on whatever his family is doing.

Going to the garage? He’s coming. Heading downstairs to exercise? Your personal trainer has arrived. Going to the bathroom? Excellent. Meechum will be providing security for that operation. And if you’re loading up the car for school pickup, PLEASE HOLD THE DOOR. His royal Meechumness would like to attend.

This boy doesn’t just enjoy family life. He has made it his entire personality. And after learning how close he came to never experiencing any of it, we can’t help but love him a little harder for that.

You see, Meechum found himself in a high-kill shelter in southeastern Oklahoma. Nobody came to claim him, and eventually, his time ran out. He was scheduled for euthanasia. When our Foster Coordinator saw his shelter photograph, that sweet little face and those pleading eyes absolutely broke her heart. She immediately started begging for someone to open their home, and PRAR managed to get him pulled just HOURS before his scheduled euthanasia.

HOURS.

And now? This formerly condemned little fellow is living his best life, supervising an entire household and making some rather questionable executive decisions.

His foster mom describes him as wicked smart, incredibly affectionate, and an absolute clown. He knows sit, stay, shake, down, and heel, walks beautifully on a leash, is doing wonderfully with his potty training, and independently uses the doggie door. He does well in his crate, loves car rides, and is extremely food-motivated, which is wonderful news for his training and potentially concerning news for any unattended snacks.

His favorite toys are little squeaky squirrels that hide inside a plush log (Hide A Squirrel toy by Outward Hound). He absolutely LOVES pulling them out, carrying them around, and squeaking them to his heart’s content. He also enjoys fetch and food puzzles, although he’s occasionally decided that tearing a puzzle apart is considerably more efficient than solving it.

Speaking of that big ol’ brain, Meechum has also demonstrated some impressive problem-solving skills involving the dining room table. He’s figured out how to move a chair so he can climb onto it. His foster mom is still determining whether she’s raising a Labrador mix or a remarkably entrepreneurial mountain goat.

And the shoes? Well, he’s already taken out a pair of high heels and the laces of a soccer cleat. The boy has expensive taste. Fortunately, his foster family is helping him channel all that brilliance into more appropriate hobbies.

But Meechum isn’t just a walking comedy special. He’s an extraordinarily loving boy who absolutely ADORES people.

His foster family has two children, ages 10 and 12, and Meechum loves them and their friends. He recently attended a birthday party at their home with more than 20 children plus adults, and he handled all that excitement beautifully! He’s friendly with men and women, adores attention, and settles into family life with the enthusiasm of someone who has finally found exactly where he belongs.

He’s still perfecting his greeting etiquette. When Meechum is REALLY excited to see somebody, all four feet occasionally leave the ground. At once. It’s less of a greeting and more of a 40-pound happiness explosion. His foster family is teaching him that his people can appreciate his enthusiasm without requiring an emergency landing.

He’s also wonderfully affectionate, but not necessarily the sort who needs to occupy your lap every waking moment. He simply likes knowing where his people are and being part of their world. After a day of games, family activities, and important household supervision, he’s perfectly happy settling into bed with his foster mom, sometimes sharing the space with a couple of kids and another dog.

And that might be the sweetest thing about this entire ridiculous, beautiful boy.

His foster mom says that when she looks into Meechum’s eyes, she sees a dog who just wants to belong. A dog who has discovered what it feels like to be loved, included, and welcomed into a family.

We don’t know everything about his life before that Oklahoma shelter. We don’t know what he experienced or how long he waited for someone to find him.

But we know this: Meechum very nearly ran out of tomorrows.

And now he’s filling every single one of them with as much happiness as his little body can possibly hold.

Somewhere out there is a family that’s going to love his goofy greetings, appreciate his enormous heart, challenge that brilliant little brain, laugh at his ridiculous antics, and eventually wonder how they ever lived without him.

We just need to help them find each other.

Because Meechum has already figured out how to be part of a family.

Now he deserves one that will be his forever. ❤️

MY IDEAL HOME 🏡

Meechum is looking for a family that believes dogs should be part of the family, not just residents of the household. He’d be absolutely THRILLED with an active individual or family who enjoys walks, games, outings, and sharing everyday adventures with their four-legged best friend.

A family with school-aged children would be especially wonderful! His foster mom suggests kids around 8–10 years or older, since Meechum’s enthusiastic greetings occasionally involve all 39 pounds of him becoming airborne. He absolutely adores children and has done beautifully with his foster family’s kids and their friends. He simply has a little more enthusiasm than gravity can always accommodate.

He could be very happy as an only dog, soaking up all that human companionship, or potentially with another friendly, playful dog who appreciates his particular brand of joyful nonsense. A quieter senior dog probably wouldn’t share his enthusiasm for spontaneous wrestling invitations.

Meechum would love a family that includes him in everyday life, whether that’s school pickup, neighborhood walks, hiking adventures, or supervising activities around the house. His foster mom feels he’d particularly enjoy having people nearby throughout the day, perhaps someone with a flexible schedule or who works from home.

His new family should also enjoy teaching their dog new things! Meechum already has an excellent foundation, and his intelligence, food motivation, and eagerness to learn make continued training a wonderful opportunity for bonding. He’ll appreciate interactive toys, plenty of enrichment, and some ongoing guidance about keeping his paws on the floor and his teeth off the designer footwear.

And at the end of the day? Give this sweet boy a comfortable place near his people, a little room in the family routine, and plenty of love.

Meechum isn’t asking for a fancy life. He just wants to be part of yours.

Although he would probably appreciate a personal chauffeur and an unlimited supply of squeaky squirrels. 🐿️
