Well, HELLOOOOO China Shop! Meet, Bull! #AdoptableSicura is a 17 week- old, 35 pound, female, Cane Corso, (Italian Mastiff) who lives up to her breed 1000%! Sicura came to us about 5-6 weeks ago, after she was surrendered to the veterinarian to be euthanized (at almost 9 weeks of age). She had been attacked by a housemate who badly broke her wee-baby jaw. The owner could not afford the nearly $6000 surgery to repair it, and so orderd her to be euthanized. Thankfully, we were contacted and intervened to save Sicura. We took ownership of this precious baby and had her jaw repaired with a board certified dentist. She was given a very special name, befitting her breed, heritage and situation. “Sicura” is Italian for, “SAFE.” It is our sincere hope that her new owner will keep her name.
Sicura surely is a very special, incredibly beautiful little, (big) dog! Bull in a China shop is a fitting description for her, as is determined, smart, friendly, sweet, gentle, resourceful, playful, snuggly, and self-motivated! Sicura is such a HELPFUL little nugget. Need help with the dishes? She’s got ya covered! Ice covering your deck? She’ll break it up for you and bring it inside to show you how hard she’s been working! As a budding landscape architech, she is sure to WOW you with her incredible skill at moving mulch around, and as a budding arborist, she is more than happy to trim those trees and bushes for you in search of her next big stick to play with! Sicura is a master at helping you clean up spills and will bring you a whole role of toilet paper to help you sop up any messes! Her keen sense of smell ensures that you will never, (EVER) cook a meal alone again. And her sheer size dictates that she will forever peer over the countertop lovingly and wantingly as you prepare meals for yourself, or for her. (We are working on this.) Sicura LOVES toys, ALL. OF. THEM. Her favorites are peanut butter filled KONG toys, and anything she can whip around like a maniac. Playing fetch is her forte though! This girl is visibly PROUD to bring that ball back to her people, and then jog off to capture it again! Like most women, Sicura is a connoisseur of shoes, especially the ones with laces! (We’re working on that, too). Sicura is very highly food motivated and a ridiculously quick learner. She learned and retained, “sit” and “down” in less than a minute! She is eager to please, and relishes lots of positive reinforcement. Sicura is pen trained. She goes to bed quietly and sleeps through the night. She is still working on potty training. She will go outside if taken out about every hour. She does use the doggy door as well. BUT – she also does NOT give a lot of notice or cues when she has to potty, so you’ll need to stay on top of it until she is fully trained to prevent accidents in the house. Sicura does really well with other dogs and wants to play with them all! Another dog about her size would be preferable because she’s big and clutzy and as a puppy can be quite persistent in her endeavors to PLAYYYYY. Older or smaller dogs may be bothered by her desire to play with them.
Sicura will require ongoing training and an obscene amount of socialization simply due to her breed. This training is expected to take up at least 2 hours of your day, every day, for the rest of her life. So please keep that in mind if applying, and make sure you have a good trainer/behaviorist lined up before you apply. Cane Corsos are NOT appropriate for first time dog owners, or owners with small children, or who will have small children down the road. Please do your breed research. A LOT OF IT. Due to the breed needs, we are requiring breed experience to adopt Sicura, and we will need to be able to verify that with your veterinarian.
Sicura will also require one more follow-up visit with her dentist in a couple of weeks, (this is covered with her adoption fee.) She will need to be followed closely by YOUR veterinarian as her adult teeth come in, as her jaw is very slightly misaligned due to the open fracture repair. There is a slight possibility that she may require one of her lower adult canines to be filed down by your vet if it grows in out of alignment. Be aware of this before applying.
Sicura’s adoption fee is $650 and includes spay, microchip with free lifetime registration, she is fully vaccinated, has had all needed dewormers, is started on heartworm prevention, and her fee includes a follow-up visit with her dentist. She will also come home with a hobo bag of things to help her get started in her new furever home. You can apply to welcome her into your family by completing an adoption application below. Please understand that adopting from P.R.A.R. means FOREVER. Please do NOT apply if you do not have the time to properly train and exercise a dog (now and in the future) or if you do not meet the minimum adoption requirements for the dog in which you are applying. APPLICATIONS NOT COMPLETED PROPERLY AND ENTIRELY WILL NOT BE PROCESSED
