💗 ADOPT RICHIE! 💗

Are you ready to meet pure  perfection? Allow me to introduce Little Richard (Richie), the most adorable, sweet, empathetic, loving, snuggly, happy, and dapper little 1 year old Miniature Schnauzer in the world! With his friendly and happy nature, combined with his undeniable smarts and snuggly disposition, Richie is definitely an incredible little man. So much so, that his rescuer is really struggling with letting him go, and hopes that his forever family will allow him to visit every now and then.

Richie has a heartwarming charm that belies his tender age. Despite being a young guy, he possesses an old soul, radiating love and happiness to everyone he meets. Unlike most Miniature Schnauzers, Richie has never met a stranger! He eagerly greets friends and family into the home and out in the community.

One of Richie’s favorite pastimes is snuggling up in a cozy blanket with his hoomans. He delights in feeling the warmth of your hand petting him all over, and he will happily share countless snuggles with you. When he’s not being a rock-star snuggler, Richie is always up for some playful fun! This energetic boy loves to be active, and we are looking for an active family for him. Whether it’s chasing after toys or ALL the balls, running zoomies in the yard, leaping through fresh snow drifts, or engaging in a friendly game of tug-of-war, this little guy is guaranteed to bring endless laughter and joy to your home. He has shown to be a friendly guy, happily playing with very young puppies and older, small-medium dogs alike, but he’s not a fan of a lot of chaos and would prefer a home that is mostly calm, so we think that a home with older children would be best.

Richie is a smart boy. He’s potty trained using the doggy door, has mastered the art of “sit” and is quick to park his tooshie when treats are involved! He’s done well on leash, but does get distracted still and changes lanes without much notice.

Richie possesses a regal, yet youthful presence that make you take a second glance and wonder… is he really REAL?!  His majestic stance is nothing short of captivating, making him a real head-turner wherever he goes. Then that loveable, goofy side of him comes out and everyone around him simply melts. Richie thoroughly enjoys his time with humans and he’ll be the guy to follow you from room to room, He  has a special fondness for other friendly dogs, medium and small, alike. He hasn’t spent time with large dogs, other than large breed puppies, and he’s done fine with them as long as they are respectful. Richie has a strong personality, as Schnauzers do, and takes his job as his hoomans’ guardian seriously and. A home with other happy, friendly dogs would be great for Richie. He would do best in a home where his humans can be with him more often than not, who will welcome him into their bed to sleep at night, have the energy and lifestyle to meet his exercise needs and who take him on many adventures. He is also looking for a family who will give him the gift of continued contact with his first mom.

In return for your love and care, Richie promises to shower you with lots of kisses, snuggles, and laughs. With his playful spirit, affectionate nature, and his knack for brightening up any room, he’s more than just a pet – he’s a lifelong companion who will make every moment special, I know this because that is what Richie has done for me. I love this precious boy SO very much, and I’m in no hurry for him to leave. We are looking for a very specific type of home and owner for this wonderful little man and we’ll hold onto him forever until we find that perfect person who will give him the lifetime of happiness, enrichment, activity and fulfillment that he deserves.

KNOWN HISTORYThis precious kiddo was surrendered to rescue by a commercial kennel. These dogs were nothing more than a number in their previous lives, but their lives changed forever the day they were surrendered to PRAR! They’ve spent their time with us living in wonderful, loving foster homes learning what it’s like to be genuinely loved. ❤️

Won’t you please consider adding this precious, sweet, loving little boy to your family? If you are not quite ready to add a new member to your family, won’t you please #SHARE our adoptable kiddos on social media? You never know when your share is the share that will bring them home.

Richie’s adoption fee is $850 and includes neuter, microchip with free lifetime registration, age appropriate vaccinations and dewormers, and 30 days of health insurance. He will come home with a hobo bag of things to help him get started in his new furever home. You can apply to welcome him into your family by completing an adoption application below.

Please understand that adopting from P.R.A.R. means FOREVER. Please do NOT apply if you do not have the time to properly train and exercise a dog (now and in the future) or if you do not meet the minimum adoption requirements for the dog in which you are applying.

About this breed:

The Miniature Schnauzer is a small dog with a whole lot of heart. They are a “people person” all the way: extroverted with moderately high energy, they just want to have fun. And being with you is fun, no matter what you do. They’re incredibly loyal to their family — and they require a great deal of attention. They’re fairly good with children and are energetic, with a lot of terrier spunkiness. The problem is, they have no clue how small they are, and they’re likely to talk trash to a much larger dog without any concept of the consequences. That swagger of theirs can get them in trouble, so it’s up to you to keep them in line. A Miniature Schnauzer also enjoys larger quarters and is great with suburban or farm families (and there might be some rats out there they can take care of for you). They adapt well to any climate, but they can gain weight quickly if they’re not exercised or fed properly. They’re protective of the people they love and are often suspicious of strangers, until you let them know they’re welcome. They’re an excellent watchdog, sometimes to your frustration, and will alert you to visitors, burglars, and blowing branches. Their bark can be piercing. They won’t be licking the burglar in welcome; they’ll be making sure you understand the gravity of the situation at full volume. A Miniature Schnauzer is intelligent and learns quickly. Bored during rainy weather? Teach your Schnauzer tricks — they’re a great tricks dog. Smart enough to learn anything, they excel at feats that involve jumping on their sturdy little legs. At the same time, they can be stubborn. Really stubborn. Dug-into-the-sand stubborn. Their favorite way of rebelling is to pretend that they don’t hear you (“La, la, la, I can’t heeear you!”) when you try to make them do something. To maintain order in your household, you must be in charge. If you let them get by with something even one time, they’ll remember it forever and you’ll find the behavior escalating. This is one of the downsides of living with a dog who might possibly be smarter than you are. But because they can be trained so easily (one of the upsides of that native intelligence), they tend to do well in obedience and agility competitions. Grooming needs: Miniature Schnauzers have a wiry coat that needs to be brushed regularly. They also need to be hand-stripped every 4-6 weeks to remove the dead hair.
